Why Fitness Matters More Than Ever

Stop guessing. Start knowing.

A 2018 Cleveland Clinic study of over 122,000 adults, published in JAMA Network Open, found that low cardiorespiratory fitness carries a mortality risk comparable to, or greater than, traditional risk factors like smoking, diabetes, and heart disease. The fittest people in the study had an 80% lower risk of death than the least fit, with no upper limit to the benefit.

Yet most people have no idea where they actually stand. Traditional check-ups rarely measure cardiorespiratory fitness directly, and by the time symptoms appear, the window for early action has often already narrowed.

The Functional Performance Assessment gives you a clear, objective picture of your physical performance today, comfortably, rapidly, and without the need for exhaustive physical stress. One assessment gives you a real starting point. A series of them shows you the direction you’re heading, which, over time, matters more than any single number.

What Is the Functional Performance Assessment?

The Functional Performance Assessment is a standardized assessment that measures how efficiently your body performs, combining cardiorespiratory, body and functional measurements into one clear result. It gives you valuable insight into your current fitness level and a baseline for tracking future improvement.

What Is Measured

Cardiorespiratory Capacity

Captured using Seismofit® technology. A lightweight sensor rests on your chest while you relax, recording subtle cardiac micro-vibrations that are analyzed to estimate your cardiorespiratory fitness in under 3 minutes. No treadmill, no breathing mask, no maximal exercise test. Seismofit has been independently validated against gold-standard cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) across multiple published studies, with accuracy that can vary by age and fitness level.

Functional Strength & Movement

Isometric grip strength: one of the most widely used functional biomarkers in healthy aging research, measured with a Jamar® Smart Hand Dynamometer. A sit-to-stand test and a balance check measure lower-body function and stability.

Body Composition & Structural Profile

Going beyond simple scale weight using advanced InBody® 8-sensor segmental technology to measure skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, and visceral fat distribution with precision.

Why This Assessment Is Different

Tri-pillar precision, cardiorespiratory, functional and body composition data cross-calibrated into one profile, not three disconnected numbers
Independently validated against gold-standard cardiopulmonary exercise testing across multiple published studies
Objective measurement, using calibrated digital instruments
Effortless protocol, no sweat, no special clothing, no exhaustive stress test

Where It Happens

Assessments are not tied to a single clinic or gym. FL Assessments brings them to venues in Orlando, including gyms, wellness centers and community spaces.

What Happens During Your Appointment?

  • Step 1: Your operator explains the assessment and prepares you for each measurement.
  • Step 2: Weight, height and waist circumference are recorded, followed by an 8-sensor body composition scan.
  • Step 3: Quick registration and demographic information.
  • Step 4: A quiet, 3-minute resting cardiac scan using the Seismofit® sensor.
  • Step 5: Isometric grip strength is measured using a Jamar® Smart Hand Dynamometer.
  • Step 6: A sit-to-stand test and a balance check.
  • Step 7: Your data is processed into an instant, easy-to-understand Performance Profile.
  • Step 8: Results are reviewed and explained.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to exercise during the test?

No maximal or strenuous exercise is required. Your cardiorespiratory measurement is taken while resting comfortably, and functional measurements like grip strength involve brief, simple actions rather than exertion.

How long does the test take?

The measurement itself takes only a few minutes, with the full appointment lasting about 15 minutes.

Will I receive my results?

Yes. Your results and their significance will be explained during your appointment.

Is the assessment suitable for non-athletes?

Yes. The assessment is suitable for a wide range of adults interested in understanding their fitness level.

How accurate is the assessment?

Seismofit® has been independently validated against cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), the same lab-based gold standard used in exercise physiology research, across multiple published studies. As with any fitness assessment method, individual accuracy can vary with factors like age and training background, which is why we continue to validate and refine the technology across broader populations. Your result gives you a meaningful, science-backed reference point, and repeat assessments are where it becomes most powerful, showing you your own trend over time rather than a single number in isolation.

How often should I repeat it?

Fitness changes gradually, so we recommend re-testing every 8–12 weeks to see a meaningful trend, or whenever you complete a new training block or reach a health milestone. A single assessment is a snapshot; a series of them shows you the direction your fitness is heading, which is ultimately more useful than any one number.

Is Seismofit FDA approved?

In the United States, Seismofit is offered as a general wellness product under the FDA’s low risk device guidance. It is not an FDA cleared or approved diagnostic device, and your results are not a substitute for medical advice.
